Double Glazing

Double glazed windows are windows that are made up of two panes of glass within the same window frame. Between the two panes of glass is a gap. The gap is filled with a special gas such as argon. Double glazing can be fitted to many different types of windows including awning, casement, double hung, sliding, picture, and more. The window frame that houses the double glazing is made from timber.

Double glazed windows and doors are great for reducing the amount of ambient noise that enters your home. This is great if you live on a busy street, under a flight path, or generally just want more peace and quiet in your home.

One of the reasons a lot of people choose to retrofit their home is for the thermal benefits. The layer between the two pieces of glass causes a barrier to keep the cold temperatures on the outside from affecting the inside. The loss of heat through a double glazed unit can be over 50% less than a single glazed window. There are glass options that can improve the thermal efficiencies by having argon filled units, reducing the heat loss through your windows up to and greater than 60%.
